The macro is probably our biggest regret as an organization. If you visit our website I think you’ll find a portrait of a small organization that aims to inform, make the world a better place, and do so in an honest way. Reader engagement is not the only reason that it’s important for social media publishers to maintain trustworthiness and accountability. It’s also a civic responsibility.

This was a huge learning experience for us. It’s hard to be absolutely diligent 100% of the time when you move as fast as social media moves. There is now an inherent wariness of information hardcoded into our organizational DNA. We double check and triple check everything we post. So, it has made us better. But it is still on my personal shortlist of things I would prevent if I had access to a time machine (see also: Adam Sandler’s 2006 film “Click”, and the rise of the German Worker’s Party)

Yep, we live in interesting times! On the paying attention to FB changes I agree this is sort of duh! but people don’t pay attention as much as they should. I was at an event only this week where it was a complete surprise to people that FB penalises ‘what happened’ headlines and posts that say ‘please share’.

Hi, I tend to agree. The focus is increasingly on quality and trustworthy content, which should help all of us.
